Sinner Woman

http://www.tangle.com/view_video?viewkey=2872b80360dc34ee72f6

I came across this video depicting the situation we talked about Wednesday Night
(Luke 7:36-50).
Notice how this video focuses almost exclusively on the interaction between the woman and Jesus. When we were talking about this we went deeper into the interaction between Jesus and Simon the Pharisee.

Comare their responses to Jesus.

Did they have anything in common?

How did they respond differently?

What do you think she was thinking? Simon?

Which do you have more in common with right now?

  1. The prostitute came aware of her undeniable need for forgiveness: The Woman at the well tried to hide her sin by focussing on theological debates (ie. Jacob's well vs. the temple) and staying clear of the real issue.

She wanted to impress Jesus with her religiosity. You can feel her insecure attempts at self vindication from the get go. Jesus had to show her her sin before she broke and asked to him for life and forgiveness.

But in the end, they both got to the same place. Total surrender and total Joy.

Hmm... I'm afraid I tend to try and exonerate my sin like the woman at the well a lot. I know i'll have to give in in the end... BUT "it wasn't my fault", "I didn't mean it that way", "He totally deserved what he got", "and really, i'm a pretty spiritual guy" etc. etc. ect. It's always the same old thing. Anything but say, "Jesus, you're the fountain of living water: wash away my sin and give me your life instead." Thank you Jesus for not giving up on me the way I would in your place!
